I was really trying to capture some things with the pictures I took last night.
1. Getting to this place (Charles graduating with his Master of Divinity) has been a family effort. I wanted to show something of the support we have all given eachother (as well as our extended family - although they couldn't be there). In some ways, we feel like we have all earned that ring.
2. Man has Charles created some big shoes (or a big ring) to fill! I tried to symbolize this idea in the pictures of us wearing the ring making a thumbs up. I love how giant the ring is on all of us. I can truly say I would feel blessed if either of the kids (or both) followed in his footsteps. This morning Kaitlin asked me when she gets her ring. I would love to have those pictures framed with his diploma.
3. The future is bright! I couldn't have asked for brighter sunshine when I took pictures before the ceremony (as you can see in some of these photos).
4. I also took pictures by the seminary from the ground up to show what a mountain that place has been to climb. It is a view worth climbing for.
5. You can see the clock tower behind Charles in one of the pictures. This is an important symbol for HSU, but I also wanted a reminder of the quote I used in an earlier blog - "The days were long, but the years were short."
So go back and look at the pictures again with those things in mind. I want to get a picture of the ring on top of the Bible that our church bought us when Charles was ordained. It was at the church last night, so I will try to get that and add it to the post today. By the way - by buttons are bursting!
